The 21 4th graders in my room have a hunger for knowledge. Over half of my students and their families are at or below the poverty level and/or learning English as a second language. These children have shown tremendous perseverance in and out of school. Their passion for learning in spite of all of their obstacles gives me such a sense of purpose each day. They have become a family in my room and have learned to care not only about themselves, but the people around them.
