I teach STEM at our newly founded Maritime High School. Our students are in a unique class setting. My classes consist of a group with mixed interests, which vary from their understanding of their environment, how they affect their community and ways to make a change. My students are creative and very curious, and they ask a lot of questions on heavy environmental and sustainable topics. Student learning at my school is centered on the environment, marine science, and maritime careers working on or near the water. To do this, students engage in integrated projects and interdisciplinary learning across all high school content areas. Our school is situated in a large suburb and is in a low-income community.
