The use of a sand and water table will be available to my students daily as it enhances their learning experience through play. Learning through play can empower students by developing critical thinking and social skills, promoting language development and creativity, and allows for sensory exploration as they have fun learning academic concepts.
By funding a sand and water table for my classroom, I will be able to provide students the opportunity to play, learn, and grow! Kindergarteners best learn using hands-on materials that enhance their senses. Sensory experiences can also support with calming down their bodies and emotions to strengthen social emotional skills. When working together at the table, students will learn how to cooperate such as by taking turns and sharing materials to build social skills. The sand and water table introduces high-level thinking concepts that will integrate mathematical learning such as applying and comparing measurement standards and creating shapes or numbers. It will introduce scientific concepts such as physics like motion and discovering how the water flows as well as properties of objects by naming what sinks or floats. When children play together, they most often create pretend play ideas that will provide opportunities to talk and ask questions with each other strengthening communication skills and language development, particularly for my ELL students (English Language Learners). This will also allow for me to participate in student conversations, modeling starters such as 鈥淭ell me more about鈥︹ and 鈥淚 wonder what would happen if鈥︹
