The carpet is definitely the most important part of the classroom. It is the space where we begin the day and get to know each other when the year is just starting. This is the place we read books and notice and wonder about these book. This is the spot we learn math skills that will carry on with us as we grow and continue to learn. It is a spot for students to sit and copy work off the board when they don't enjoy working at desks. It is the spot where we can get comfy and read a book and immerse ourselves into the adventure we are reading about.
The carpet is the center of our classroom learning and community.
