My fourth graders range in ability levels and interests. Over half of them receive free/reduced lunches and/or come from at-risk homes. They are excited to try new things and learn about new places. Often times, I have to reel them in after one of them discovers a new concept in class because they are hungry for new experiences.
In rural central Pennsylvania, these students have a familiarity with the outdoors in an intimate way. They play in the woods during recess; they prefer math class with a clipboard and a rock for a desk over a computer screen. They are hard working, enjoyable children to be around.
