Looking at my classes, I see a room filled with typical 11-12 year olds. They love sports, their friends, TV, hunting, and fishing. They are attached to their phones, ipods and tablets. Hallway conversations reveal fights with friends, dramatic breakups, who said what to whom, and weekend plans. They love to dance and listen to music. Their day is made when I utter the words, "You may listen to your music while you work." In many ways, they remind me of myself at that age. But the challenges they face in today's world are much greater.
