Students in Kindergarten need multiple opportunities to practice learning their alphabet. They come to school with various abilities and many have no prior exposure to their letter recognition or sounds. Building, sorting and writing letters help students retain skills needed to learn to read.
Kinesthetic learning is important for young children to discover letters and connect them to words. The magic board will allow students to practice how to write their letters and words multiple times in a nonthreatening way. With paper and pencil, many students sometimes get frustrated when they make a mistake and can't erase without ripping their paper.
The electronic pencil will be motivating for my students because it corrects them if they make a mistake, but also celebrates their success when they get it right. This self-corrects without hurting their self-esteem and allows them to try even if they don't get it right the first time. I want my students to learn from their mistakes because I tell them "If you can't a mistake you can't make anything."
