My students need basic school supplies, which many of their families cannot afford. That should not stop them from learning! Having a stapler, pencils, glue sticks, a pencil sharpener, markers, color pencils and file folders available to all students in my classroom will help everyone be ready to learn. The pencil sharpener will be used every day, as will the stapler and pencils. We will use the file folders for students to organize their own papers, so they can save time rummaging for work in progress and be off to a quick start learning. Laminating labels, charts and items we use over and over saves time and money in the long run. And my students love art, so colored pencils and markers are so appreciated and used up every year. Imagine being 10 years old and coming to school with nothing. Well, that is the reality for some of my students on the first day of school. Please help these young people start the new school year in a classroom where supplies are available for every student. Where every student is valued, has a voice, is a self-manager, is respected and welcomed; a contributing member of a community of learners who love coming to school each and every day!
