I am a counselor and teacher at Fremont High School, located in a low-income community in Los Angeles. My students face significant challenges, including violence, homelessness, and economic instability, yet they amaze me daily with their resilience and perseverance. I began at Fremont 30 years ago, thinking it was temporary. But my students changed that—they taught me about strength, hope, and determination, turning this job into my lifelong calling. They show up, work hard, and appreciate every opportunity, finding joy in even small victories. Their kindness and spirit inspire me to be a better educator, and I feel privileged to support them.
