My students are fifth graders in an impoverished area. Many of my students struggle academically and lack resources outside of school. I have created a safe environment for my students both physically and emotionally. Students know they can take risks and as a result they will grow. They truly give me their all every time they set foot in my classroom, but they are never so alive and engaged as they are when we integrate art into our curriculum. In our classroom we are family and you can see the pride when you walk into our classroom as evident in the student work on our walls. That is truly the climate no matter where you are on campus. When you walk on campus, you will immediately feel the warmth of a staff who loves our students and students who love their school.
