Most of the students I work with are reading 2 to 3 levels below their grade level. They struggle with self confidence, motivation, and don't think they are good readers. They want to succeed and we have tried many different programs but we have limited resources.
We live in a rural community in Utah with many migrant children who come to our school because their parents work in a dairy or on farms in our community.
Most of the students who struggle have minimal parental support and have been struggling readers for quite a while. The older they get the harder it is to build up their love of reading and their desire to try harder. One successful way I have found is through readers theaters and plays. We have found some materials but nothing like these kits. If we had these kits we could read the books together, retell the story, make scripts, and act out the plays for other students in our school. This will make them stars instead of low readers who get pulled out for help!
