The art program at our little school is blooming! Enrollment across all art classes is up, but our budget has yet to sprout. We could really use your green thumb in tending to student needs.
Funding for this project will allow me to introduce a sculpture and painting unit into the Foundations course, improve figure drawing at all levels, and increase student comfort and productivity with clear labels and more flexible seating options!
The clay, dowels, tempera paint, and Mod Podge sealers will be used in introducing a sculpture and painting unit (creating a small totem pole) into the Foundations course. With our limited space and budget, art courses have been limited almost exclusively to dry 2-D media in the past. This will give students a chance to learn about design in three dimensions, acquire skills for working in clay, and develop their understanding of color theory through the practical application of mixing paint.
The anatomical models would allow students to take their time studying human proportion in three dimensions and dynamic poses, providing for one model per table group.
We recently used all of our sidewalk chalk and pastels in a collaborative project with the drama class, illustrating a monologue on campus. More chalk will allow us to continue bringing student art to an authentic audience, and spreading a love of art in the community.
The pillows add a third flexible seating option (to standing and traditional desks) so students can work in a way most comfortable for them. The chime will aid in smooth, low-stress transitions during instruction.
Sharpies are quite simply their favorite media to work with. Providing us with more colored Sharpies would make these kids so darn happy. Bristol board allows us to work in Sharpie without permanently decorating our already beleaguered furniture!
