I have been teaching first grade for about 5 years now and with the half-day model we have at GLOBE, it is hard to find extra "play" time for my students. They are such a sweet and lovable group and really desire to play. I have found over the past couple years that having 48 students do morning work from 7:40-8:15 until school starts can be a lot of prep and paperwork for me to oversee. I feel that students would benefit from doing interactive morning work using different math and language arts manipulatives. This will also improve their social skills and interactions and help foster respect for classroom materials, helping others, and sharing.
