Students such as mine who have constant access to digital technology through their school-issued iPads and their own smartphones need to have time to use their hands to create and to experience face-to-face learning opportunities. Being able to make a piece of wearable art will give them the satisfaction of creation without the pressure of being a graded activity within the formal learning environment.
Learning takes place in numerous places within the school environment; having to figure out how to use a new device, creating small, personal art pieces, and interacting with others eager to use the device will offer my students practical, real-world experiences that will further engage them with the learning process.
