My students look forward to reading each day. It provides each student an individual escape. They are able to break away from the rigors of core courses and get lost in the pages of whatever book that they have chosen. My class library is a random assortment of books and incomplete sets. This grant will be an awesome opportunity for our class to enhance our library. I plan to begin a book club in my class. Each student will read a book per month and then write a short report summarizing what they read. My students are excited to participate in book club. Crisp, new books with exciting topics are sure to provide the perfect getaway for my students. As a teacher, it is nice to witness how captivated and engrossed my students are when they have a chance to read a book that interests them. Books are a passport to worlds beyond their imagination. Reading is fundamental to learning and something we try to reinforce daily. We will be using Out of My Mind, Edwards Eye's, Peak, The Giver, Touching Spirit Bear, Wolf Brother, Freak the Mighty, and The Whipping Boy for our daily guided reading groups. The rest of the new books such as the Beyonders set, The Hobbit, Refugee, Percy Jackson, Divergent, The I Survived Collection, Michael Vey, and the other books will really strengthen our library and give my students a fresh avenues to explore.
