This year our school district has closed four elementary buildings and built two brand new, beautiful, state of the art elementary school buildings. I am lucky enough to be teaching in one of them. With the new building comes a new approach to my job as an intervention specialist.
By donating to this project, you will help support our goal of keeping students with special needs in the classroom with their peers and implementing a co-teaching model to provide intervention support and specially designed instruction within their classroom to help them close educational gaps. This initiative means that our new small group resource rooms have been made very very small as we will spend most of our day traveling with students in their general education classroom schedule to provide services, only coming to the resource room for minimal small group instruction as needed.
My project will allow me to organize student materials and manipulatives so that they are easily accessible for students and can be taken from room to room by way of a rolling storage cart with multiple drawers. This project will also give students access to up-to-date technology(iPads) for engaging assessments, data collection tools, and fun supplemental interventions. In a technology centered world, getting the most current forms of technology into students hands will help increase their technological proficiency as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology. This will not only improve their attention and focus, but will in turn have a positive impact on their overall achievement.
