My students attend an inner city school whose student body is diverse, both academically and socioeconomically. Many of the students are English Language Learners and some were living in refugee camps. They have left their home country for a better life and education. My students are full of potential and eager to learn. They come to school each and every day with smiles on their faces. They do not have the required materials at home to practice what is being taught in the classroom. The instruction they receive in my classroom is usually the extent of their learning time. The support at home is little to none, mostly due to the lack of materials. They need to develop the skills to keep up in a world that is full of literacy.
