The current setup of the library is very typical: books are organized in alphabetical order by author's last night with only spines showing. While this is a very standard library setup, it is also very overwhelming and not easy to navigate for all of our students.
I want to remove as many barriers to access as possible in the library while increasing cirulation by providing students with alternate methods of searching for books. The clear organizational bins will be used to house books by genre, which will be indicated by the picture frames. With this alternative organization, I will be able to have picture books that are front facing so students can flip through to look at the front cover. By allowing the students to actually see the cover of the book, my goal is that they can find more books to read, therefore, increasing circulation in the library.
Additionally, the document files will serve as reader's advisory throughout the library. My students will be able to go to any of the document files to find books recommendations by topic or by other books. This will also serve as a way for students to be independent in the library.
In the end, my goal is to put as many books into the hands of kids as possible as a means to improve literacy with our young readers.
