I teach science and social studies to all 5th grade students at a school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch through a federal grant. My students are amazing! Although many of them face daily struggles and challenging situations at home, they come to school every day eager to learn and ready to work. Being able to meet and reach all of my students is a constant challenge, and one that I continue to work towards. Our students cover a wide range of academic abilities, socioeconomic levels, learning disabilities and other factors that make excelling at school challenging. Technology is a powerful tool to use in the classroom that enables me to differentiate learning for all students, but we need more resources to make this possible and to help students be successful. The state standards guide our learning, but service to others is also a big part of what we do in my classroom.
