Our school is a public high school, open to anyone, but in an alternative environment. Our students are able to earn an associates degree by taking college courses through the community college while in high school.
My students are wonderful kids, who need a different environment than traditional high school. Some of them are here because they need more one-on-one attention from a teacher, some because they know they won't be able to attend college any other way, and some just needed a fresh start.
Our school is truly a family. Since we do have a smaller environment, relationships continue throughout the 4-5 years our students attend. We may not have all the resources of a larger high school, but we have strong connections to our kids, and that makes the difference for them.
