As a way to teach my students life skills and social skills, we began a classroom café and bakery last school year. Puzzle Piece Café & Bakery has helped my students make great strides in social skills, life skills, reading, writing and math. We are in need of various kitchen items to help build this program and provide a hands on, real world experience. Through social interaction with school staff, my students learn that it is okay to talk to others outside of the classroom and that everyone is part of a bigger piece of the puzzle. Last year, one of my 8th graders said, "Our café has helped me not to fear letting others know I have Autism and that I can do anything I put my mind to do." The serving cart, pots, pans, mixer and other kitchen items listed will enable my students to develop social skills, life skills and will help them put skills they have learned in our math, reading and writing lessons to real world situations.
