The reading resource boxes will help my students practice and develop their applicational reading skills such as inferring, cause and effect, story elements, paraphrasing, text structure, and character analysis. The game folders from these boxes will be used in and out of center rotations as my students work collaboratively to deepen their skills. Part of developing oral reading fluency is to have it modeled. Hearing authors read with prosody will help them decode and establish new sight words. The portable cd players and books on cd will help to accomplish this goal. Students will have tracking pages within their specific colored bin to help aide in correlating reading levels. Students will be excited and engaged when participating in these tactile and listening activities which can only enhance their ability to read. Learning to read and comprehend what we read, is a quintessential life skill that translates all subject areas and professions. I would like for this section to "jump out" so a new area carpet will offer a warm welcome. To help our new students from Puerto Rico adjust to the classroom, I want to provide a place where my students can "wiggle" as they learn. I plan to use these awesome chairs at the computer center as a way to release energy as they multitask. This project is special because I have it focusing on a particular section of my classroom. I would like to create an inviting and colorful section that lures my students to read. The books on cd will each have their own bin in a bookshelf. The bins will be color coded coupled with the portable cd players & headphones, so that it correlates to a particular reading level within the "read along" library section.
