I am a reading specialist and work to support readers of various abilities across the school. I help students find books they can read and books they want to read. Graphic novels have the power to hook kids into reading. These diverse titles can help me to appeal to my diverse student population and keep them reading!
Graphic novels hold great appeal and can also be stepping stones to more sophisticated texts. This rich collection of graphic novels spanning fiction and nonfiction, classic and contemporary stories, written by diverse authors will support me in finding books to hook students to read and keep reading. Many titles included are the first in a series, encouraging students to continue reading the entire series.
Other titles, such as Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds or Crossover by Kwame Alexander offer accessible graphic texts that can introduce kids to these incredible and beloved authors - that they might not be able to experience otherwise.
