I have 22 wonderful 4th graders. I teach in a high poverty very diverse school district in rural America. We have a many wonderful families that work hard to support their children, but that means they may not always be available to help them at home at nights. So I take advantage to give my students every opportunity to use hands-on items that may help to understand and grasp concepts quick and more deeply. Many of my students speak two languages, which is a wonderful skill to have, but also hinders them in their learning process. Through hands-on learning they can "show" or demonstrate how to answer problems easier than reading and writing the answers. We work on that after we understand the concept. My students are so excited to learn and demonstrate to their parents what they have learned.
