These books also encourage students to experience the human connection with characters from these novels and other people in the real world. I once had a student who would only read this book because he felt so strongly about the message that the book sends to the world. I want to show my students that reading can change lives and use this novel as a support to teach them reading strategies, teach them about justice, and help them discover the human connection.
