My students are 4th and 5th graders with a range of high-incidence disabilities. More than 90% of them qualify for free or reduced meals at school. Many of them come from single parent households, foster care, or other unfortunate circumstances. Although many of these students do not have ideal home lives, they do have positive attitudes and bright outlooks on life, and that is what keeps me going each day. I believe that a great teacher can make learning fun and inspire them to reach their full potential, regardless of their natural drive or educational support outside of school. These students struggle in many academic areas. Learning content in the general education is difficult for them. They are given the opportunity to come to my room to learn the material in a smaller and quieter setting and with more support and differentiation.
