Developing a love of reading in my students is one of my most passionate goals as an educator. I consider myself lucky to have fallen in love with books at a young age, and am driven to share the excitement of literature with my young, emergent readers. My room features an extensive library of books, multiple reading nooks, and a learning wall dedicated to my reading program, Room 2 Reads. What I lack, however, are book boxes sturdy enough to hold multiple books for my student's independent reading collection. Every year, I spend my own funds to purchase cardboard book boxes for my students. However, they easily rip due to the strain of eager 7 and 8 years olds filling them to the brim. Mid-way through each year, many of the boxes are destroyed and need replacing; each year, I have to repeat the process. By raising funds to purchase a class set of sturdy metal book boxes, donors will help me invest in my student's need to have functional materials that support their reading progress. I want my students to continue to value their reading experience, whether discovering a new favorite genre or author, or experiencing the immense pride that comes from growth in reading levels. The beautiful book boxes will be motivation to care for their materials, and will last for many, many years worth of young readers.
