I believe the Edgar Dale adage that "we remember 10% of what we read, 20% of what we hear, 30% of what we see, 50% of what we see and hear, 70% of what we discuss with others, 80% of what we personally experience, 95% or what we teach others." Students need to be able envision themselves as successful, productive and happy adults through opportunities to be successful, productive and happy children. In my class, we do lots of hands on learning. We are always running low on supplies for building, experimenting and showing our work in new and meaningful ways.
3rd-grade is busy, is full of productive talk, collaboration and joyful learning. We use flexible seating to ensure students can work at their best, comfortably and in flexible groupings. Students freely use classroom materials to display their learning and expand their creativity. Some of the best days are when a kid asks "What if..." and I say "We can do that."
