AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The 9th-12th graders in the AVID electives are four-year college bound, have between a 2.0-3.5 GPA, and are on the college prep track in order to enter and stay in the program. During the four year program, they are given a rigorous curriculum to enable them to excel. Students are taught Cornell notes, how to organize a binder, how to run a study group through collaborative inquiry, and given additional reading and writing skills. We take the students on three college field trips per year, to a UC, a CA state university, and a private college. We also go on one team building field trip. One year we did a ropes course.Another year we completed a lab with the Marin Watershed. It's all about college readiness and college preparedness. These are students who are typically under served as they are economically disadvantaged and/or first generation to go to college.
