I am hoping to switch to flex seating to help my students work better together and feel better about coming to school. Students buy in more when they have choice in seating and creating groups with flex seating helps increase community and collaboration. When they work around a coffee table or on a sofa, they are up to 48% more likely to participate in class discussion. I love that my students are reading more with free choice reading, but I want them to talk about reading more through free choice seating. I will create conversation areas more conducive to learning experiences like book clubs and writing circles. Flex seating will help me better serve my students with ADHD, who will have more freedom to move and will help make a more calming, welcoming, fun classroom environment for everyone.
