Two new librarians have moved into a middle school library space, and we are looking to make changes. Students are coming in, checking out books, and visiting with their class for group lessons, but we want more.
We are envisioning an open learning environment that fosters student collaboration - a safe place to explore and express their ideas. With new seating, students can configure the learning area so it is effective for them as individuals. Students can use the counter height stools throughout the library, while basking in the natural sunlight or working on top of the bookshelves. For project work, students will easily be able to pull the Jupiter nesting stools together for brainstorming sessions, but separate comfortably to complete individual components. Having our students be able to move their seating easily throughout the library, yet stay engaged in their learning, is central to our mission as media specialists.
This furniture will take us one step closer towards a true learning commons that supports the needs of all our learners in the building.
