My students attend an inner city school, that does not have enough technology resources to provide each student with a device. This means that my students do not have regular access to technology, outside of the hour they spend in the computer lab each week. With the growing technological demands, my second graders need to begin building the foundational skills necessary for them to be successful not only on statewide assessments, but also in the future.
My classroom is made up of a mixture of 39 curious monolingual and bilingual students. They are always asking many questions about the world around them, and are eager to research and find information on their own. From the very first day of second grade, we are teaching our students to be "scholars" that are willing to go above and beyond to learn. Giving each student access to a device would allow them to do exactly that on a regular basis.
