Our students are curious, skeptical, probing, and they have a thirst for scientific knowledge. Every day I'm faced with a new question: Why does that happen? What happens when you mix these chemicals together? When we will get to learn this? What if I add more water? What if it heats up? What makes this explosive when that isn't? How can we conserve more energy? More money? More time?
In rural North Carolina, first-hand scientific opportunities beyond agriculture and livestock do not present themselves often. Students are itching to grab any chance they have to gain exposure to the branches of science they don't see everyday, and they want to improve the daily lives of themselves and those around them.
