Last year I was asked "What is the number one reason adults do not enjoy meetings?" I immediately responded with "sitting in a hard chair for a long period of time."
Yet, day after day, we make students, even our littlest learners, sit at a desk and expect them to do their best. I got rid of the desks, got a few tables and floor seats and gave it a shot. My students have thrived this year when given the chance to choose what is best for them. For example, Sofiya, who fidgets often, produces her best work laying down on the rug. Ethan likes to stand at his desk when writing.
Unfortunately I do not currently have many seating options for students. This project will offer my Kindergarteners a variety of seating choices to use during the day to help them achieve in a way that works best for each individual. We need balance balls, wobble chairs and laptop desks to provide seating options for flexible seating in the Kindergarten classroom.
