I teach twelve high school students with severe to moderate autism. It is a challenge, but they surprise me everyday. These kids are so smart and it's my sincere privilege to foster their skills so they can lead a productive life.
Many of my students are visual and tactile learners. They don't do well with printed materials. Visuals and hands on learning is the best way to get key concepts across to them. An interactive whiteboard would allow them the best chance of success with the curriculum they have this year.
Many concepts are abstract to the autistic mind, simply because a lack of physical connection. Autism is basically a rewiring of the senses, which allows the students to learn through sounds, smell, touch more than they would just hearing information. An interactive whiteboard is more than just a tool, it is a gateway from their world to the global community.
