My students come from low-income neighborhoods on the East and West sides of Chicago. The examples set forth for them are, unfortunately, mostly negative. They do not see many people achieving their goals, and even when they do, either in real-life or on television, they are mostly doctors or lawyers. There are so many other career paths out here for my students that would suit their learning styles and interests more. One career path in which my students have expressed interest is photography. However my students need Sony Megapixel Digital Cameras for their photography training programs. They also need a protection plan in case of damage to the cameras, and a HP OfficeJet printer to print their work! I am starting a photography, music, and multimedia program for the middle school students, and it simply cannot be pulled off with the minimal resources we currently have. This program will serve those students who may not necessarily want to go to college after high school, but want to have successful careers. The program will include music, dance, real estate, construction, and photography, amongst other careers. However, the cameras and printer for the photography program will easily be the most expensive for myself and my school. We have computers that my students can access, but that is all there is to offer. So I am reaching out to various sources to make the rest happen. I figured that my first ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ project would be a perfect place to start! Please find it in your heart to help my students realize that there is so much more out there for them. And while many cannot walk a mile in the shoes of a Chicago student, how amazing would it be if the world could see "through their eyes"!
