As a fourth grade reading teacher; I encourage my students to begin the transition of reading mainly chapter and nonfiction books during their self reading time. However, I am committed to using great quality picture books to assist in teaching my reading content standards. The 20 picture books I chose for this project will allow me to teach all of my reading standards in a meaningful, creative and memorable way. Students this age still love to be read too and they love a great story. Therefore, I want to read a picture book a day to my fourth graders to instill a love of reading as well as a means to teach and review my standards.
