Do you remember a time that you took the road less traveled? I had my Robert Frost moment after receiving my Ph.D. The choice to either continue the scientist path with a postdoc or take action to change a problem close to my heart was a defining moment in my life. In graduate school, most of my peers/professors were male. We had one female student and many of my peers were from families where both parents went to college, and from backgrounds that were well-represented in the scientific community. This sparked a drive for me to effect change and help provide support for students from backgrounds that are underrepresented in the sciences. Ultimately, I decided that the most effective way to contribute was to become a science teacher and help rekindle the innate curiosity in my students before it was too late. It is important for me to live my passion and I appreciate all your help in effecting change in the STEM.
