Our school hosts grades 3K to 8th so my Kindergartners share a school with over 750 students in a high need area. With such a wide variety of learners and needs, Kindergartners need access to materials that are age appropriate to increase their literacy skills.
Kindergarten is that special time when children start to piece together the knowledge they receive from home and school and start applying it to the real world in reading and writing.
With our laminating machine and printer items we will be able to provide the students with individual reading leveled resources for book baggies and writing tool kits. Often times, our students use curriculum workbooks that are not differentiated enough or the students are not ready for and we have to make our own practice and assessments to help them access the material easily.
With hands on literacy materials, the students will be able to partake in centers while I support small group instruction. With these centers, students will be able to partake in independent learning, self check and help build their social competencies with others. Children learn best by doing and we hope to incorporate kinesthetic learning within Phonics with our Rhythm scarves!
