The Battle of the Books program exposes students of all ability levels to quality literature representing a variety of literary styles and viewpoints by prominent authors in the area of young adult literature. Through the fun and excitement of the Battle of the Books game format, students improve reading skills, mature in their choices of reading materials, and acquire a broader knowledge base.
Our kids are willing to work hard to begin a tradition of reading and winning! Although we have brains and talent, our four-year-old school has yet to establish a culture of excelling at academic competitions.
This year's 27 books were selected ;by the North Carolina School Library Media Association and they represent a variety of plots, settings, styles, subject areas, and genres. These books are well-reviewed and will stand "the test of time." A set of these books provides our students with reading opportunities and opportunities to gain confidence and experience with academic competitions.
