Our diverse students need to have an outlet to discuss and learn to move beyond the difficult cultural and racial issues within our country currently. As an All School Read, teachers and students will be able to bring up the topics highlighted in this captivating book, grapple with the issues in their minds, and communicate their thoughts about racism and hatred in their homes, schools and communities. Starr Carter's story will allow us to open the doors of conversation and through discussion, we can face these challenges together and build a community of trust. With this book, our goal is to start a book club and continue on with other stories which our community can connect and relate to.
