I work at a low socioeconomic school where I have made a commitment to teaching kids to not only love to read but to teach students how to build stamina while reading. Many of my students come from homes where they don't get the love and structure they need to thrive in school. Many students don't get many meals and the importance of reading isn't held to a standard that it deserves. My job is not only to teach my students how to read, but why it is important, why we read and how to enjoy reading. Although my job is to teach, I couldn't do my job if I didn't show them love! Many only get love at school. So, if I can give them love, buy them a tooth brush, or even clothes I feel lucky, but teaching them to read on top of that- I call that blessed.
