The middle school where I work is a school labeled 'high poverty." Our school has 100% Free and Reduced Lunch as well as breakfast. Many of my students don't have the resources available to purchase their own schools supplies. Furthermore, our school does not have the financial means to give each teacher the necessary tools in order to fully best serve our students.
The students in my classroom all have a variety of skills and assets they bring into our classroom. Each of the students in my classroom has an intellectual or mental disability that puts them 5 or more years behind other peers their age. As a result, students spend the majority of their school day in my classroom so they can get the appropriate individual education needed to foster their learning.
