Reading and researching are some of thegreatest predictors of future success. But how do you get 10 and 11 year old's to be engaged in reading and researching? You give them the latest books that will both challenge them and expose them modern day, enticing topics as well as the tools to be able to comfrtable and confidently be able to work on a research project and present an oral speech!
When students' are constantly bombarded with video games, streaming services, and cell phones, it is hard to convince them to pick up a book instead. With new release titles such as the "Who Was..." book series suddenly they become interested in reading and researching again.
Once you find the perfect book for each student, their love of reading is reignited. By having more books in my classroom, I can better match each student to their next favorite book. Each student should also be able to work in preferential seating- I would love to have a taller table for pairs to collaborate with each other as the read, research and experiment.
