Our school is located in the heart of the inner city of Los Angeles. From our playground we have the majestic view of the high rises of downtown. My students are children of hard working parents who never see their kids till sundown. Many are here from morning to late evening. Their experiences of the world are very limited to school and the playground. My students come from homes where the language is one other than English. As the teacher I feel compelled to offer as many experiences as my budget would allowed. I have searched the school for as many computers as I can. Although they are old the students enjoy going online for lessons and activities that require outside glimpses of our society. Most of my students have never been outside of their neighborhoods. Yet they are eager to learn and be part of the community that they live in. They are all part of the free and reduced lunch. They come from lower economic backgrounds yet their spirits are rich and ready to fly!
