With a flat screen TV and an iPad I can change students’ understanding about what direct instruction should be. No more boring lecture-style lessons. No more trying to see math problems or reading passages on a worn out projector at the front of the room. From chalk boards to overhead projectors to doc cams and ceiling projectors, the tools of learning have changed and evolved. Now with a TV monitor and iPad the students can see in real time whatever I need to show them to make learning real.
With a class set of boogie boards or dry erase boards every child participates in every lesson. They no longer have to sit passively watching as the teacher demonstrates math problems on the board.
