A successful classroom environment tailors to every type of learner. I would like to provide my students with a classroom that has flexible seating and materials that will allow for students to work and learn in a variety of ways.
Providing materials such as wiggle cushions, wobble chairs, individual work spaces, and fidget items will allow for every student to learn in a physical space that best suits their needs. Differentiation is important not only in instruction, but also in the physical environment we work in.
The resources I am asking for will make a huge difference in my classroom. Often kids are expected to sit in their chairs at their tables or desks for long periods of time each day. During instruction and work time both, students would benefit from using various sensory tools such as seat cushions, wobble chairs, and chowkis. Wobble chairs are designed to support students who have extra energy. They give students the opportunity to release that energy while simultaneously working. Wiggle cushions would help support students who are working on the floor. It provides a more comfortable place to work as well as providing the same opportunity of releasing that extra energy. The floor tables, also known as chowkis, would provide students with individual work spaces that they can move around the room. Some students need space by themselves to concentrate and get their work completed. All of my students would have equal access to these amazing tools and would be so grateful!
Providing students with an environment that they can focus and work in is a fundamental part of helping them grow and succeed in school!
