In August 2017, Hurricane Harvey brought flood waters to our school.
Since our school was devastated by Harvey, we started the 2017-2018 school year at a local church. Then, we moved to another campus in our district. In February 2018 we moved into portable buildings. We had school in them until we moved back into the the main building in March 2019. Most of the building was repaired by then, except for classroom cabinets.
Many students received water damage to their own homes and were displaced, as well.
Besides all of these hardships, my first graders are energetic and hard working. They come to school every day with smiles on their faces and an eagerness to learn. They love to sit and enjoy books read aloud to them. They also enjoy playing math games and doing science experiments.
We are rebuilding our classroom and school one step at a time. These wonderful children deserve some normalcy in their little lives.
