This year, we are learning about chess, playing chess, writing about chess, and designing our own chess sets. There are plenty of themed chess sets available, but we're going to design our own.
Who do you think is the king of our school? We asked ourselves that question as we used metaphor to compare different aspects of our lives to chess. At first we jumped on the idea that our principal is the king, but when we considered it more, we decided that perhaps the students are the king. We're going to choose our own themes and design chess sets that embody our themes.
We can draw our ideas, but we will benefit more from the experience of using computer-aided design to design something that we'll actually produce. We'll have to use many of our mathematical abilities, and we'll probably experience frustration along the way, but we'll persevere.
After we finish our chess sets, we can continue to use our 3D printer to design our own inventions, print models of actual fossils, see and touch our own ideas, and even join the maker movement. The possibilities are endless.
