One project that students will be doing year is designing and building an eco-friendly tiny house by cutting, hot gluing and taping cardboard, create furniture with card stock, toothpicks, straws, and clay. They will follow that project up with a solar oven made out of cardboard, aluminum foil, popsicle sticks, wooden dowels, card stock, pipe cleaners, and yarn. Later on when we cover the weather unit students will use cardboard to design and build a storm chaser vehicle out of the same materials as the other projects. They will also make a water filter using the rubber bands and coffee filters. Students will disassemble the Lego mini figures when we begin our human body cells unit. Safety is our main concern when doing project so student will wear gloves when cutting and gluing.
Our goal this year is to encourage students to broaden their imagination on careers they could choose. By offering these experiences in Project Based Learning we hope to intrigue their interest. We want students to realize how much they impact the world at such a young age.
